Question 1

Why do my dash lights come on but the engine will not crank?

Accepted Answer

Dash lights are powered by your battery directly — they need far less current than the starter motor. So lights on, no crank usually means the battery has just enough charge to run the electrics but cannot deliver the 150–300 amps needed to spin the starter. It can also mean the starter motor itself has failed, the immobiliser is active, or a neutral/clutch switch is telling the car it is not safe to crank.

Question 2

How much does an electrical fault diagnosis cost in Waltham Cross?

Accepted Answer

MnF Motors charges a transparent diagnostic fee to test the starting system fully — covering battery load test, starter circuit, immobiliser, switches and earth straps. The fee is confirmed before work begins and is offset against the repair cost if you proceed. Call 020 8803 1231 for today's rate.

Question 3

Can a bad earth strap cause a no-crank fault?

Accepted Answer

Yes — a corroded or loose earth strap is one of the most commonly missed causes of a no-crank fault. The starter motor needs a clean, high-current return path to earth. A high-resistance earth connection starves the starter of current even when the battery is fully charged.

Question 4

Will my immobiliser stop the engine cranking entirely?

Accepted Answer

On many modern vehicles, yes. Some immobiliser systems cut the starter relay circuit completely, so the engine will not crank at all — it is not just a fuel or ignition cut. MnF Motors reads immobiliser and body control module data to confirm whether a security fault is active before suspecting any mechanical component.

Question 5

How long does a no-crank electrical diagnosis take?

Accepted Answer

In most cases MnF Motors can identify the root cause within 60–90 minutes using a combination of scan tool data, live circuit testing and physical inspection of the starter circuit. Simple faults like a failed clutch switch or earth strap can sometimes be fixed the same day.
