Question 1

How urgent is an MOT advisory for brake pads wearing thin?

Accepted Answer

An advisory means the pads are not yet at the legal minimum but they will be before your next MOT. You should book a replacement within a few weeks — sooner if you hear grinding or feel the car pulling under braking. Leaving it to metal-on-metal contact will damage your discs and cost significantly more.

Question 2

How much does brake pad and disc replacement cost in Ponders End?

Accepted Answer

Prices vary by vehicle make and whether pads alone or pads and discs together are needed. Call MnF Motors on 020 8803 1231 for a fixed, itemised quote before any work begins. We supply quality pads and discs and fit them at our Edmonton N18 garage — no hidden extras.

Question 3

Can I drive with an MOT advisory on brake pads?

Accepted Answer

Technically yes — the car passed its MOT — but the advisory is a professional warning that the pads will reach the legal minimum (1.5 mm) before your next test. If you hear squealing or grinding, or the car pulls to one side, stop driving and call us immediately.

Question 4

Do you replace discs as well as pads at MnF Motors?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We inspect disc thickness, scoring and runout when we remove the wheel. If discs are worn beyond their minimum or badly scored, we recommend replacing them at the same time as the pads — it's better value and safer than fitting new pads onto damaged discs.

Question 5

How long does a brake pad and disc replacement take?

Accepted Answer

Most brake pad replacements take 1–2 hours. If discs need replacing on multiple axles, allow up to half a day. We'll give you an accurate time estimate when you call or book online.
