Question 1

What does fault code P0480 mean on my car?

Accepted Answer

P0480 means the ECU has detected an abnormal signal in the cooling fan relay control circuit for fan 1 (P0481 covers fan 2). The fan may not be running, running at the wrong speed, or the control signal is open or shorted. The ECU cannot confirm the fan is responding correctly.

Question 2

Is it safe to drive with a P0480 fault code in Palmers Green?

Accepted Answer

Short trips at speed in cool conditions may be tolerable, but slow traffic in Palmers Green — particularly on the A406 or Green Lanes — presents a real overheating risk. Without a functioning cooling fan the engine temperature can spike quickly when stationary. We recommend booking a diagnosis before driving further.

Question 3

How much does it cost to diagnose and fix a P0480 fault?

Accepted Answer

Diagnosis at MnF Motors typically costs £45–£65. The repair cost then depends on the root cause: a relay is inexpensive, a fan module or resistor pack costs more, and wiring repairs vary with complexity. We quote before we touch anything.

Question 4

Can a P0480 code cause my air conditioning to cut out?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many ECUs are programmed to disable air conditioning when the cooling fan circuit is faulty, to prevent additional heat load on an already compromised cooling system. Fixing the fan circuit typically restores normal AC operation.

Question 5

Will MnF Motors handle a P0480 repair under a warranty claim?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If your vehicle is covered by a third-party or dealer warranty, our team can manage the warranty claims process on your behalf. Warranty claims work is handled up to 100 miles from our Edmonton workshop — contact us and we will liaise directly with your warranty provider.
