Question 1

Why has my speedometer stopped working and my ABS light come on at the same time?

Accepted Answer

Because your speedometer reads speed from the ABS system, not a dedicated sender. Both faults sharing the same trigger almost always points to a failed wheel speed sensor, a broken wire in the sensor circuit, or a loss of power/ground to the ABS module — fix one and both symptoms clear.

Question 2

Is it safe to drive with the ABS light on and no speedometer?

Accepted Answer

You should avoid driving any more than necessary. With ABS inactive you have no electronic braking safety net, and without a live speed reading your engine management may also be affected. Get it checked promptly.

Question 3

How much does it cost to fix a dead speedometer and ABS light in Hornsey?

Accepted Answer

A wheel speed sensor replacement at MnF Motors typically costs £80–£160 fitted depending on vehicle and which corner is at fault. A wiring repair is often less. ABS module work is quoted individually. Diagnostic scan is charged separately and applied toward any repair.

Question 4

How long does the repair take?

Accepted Answer

A wheel speed sensor swap is usually completed within the same day — often within two to three hours once the car is on the ramp. Wiring repairs vary depending on how much of the loom is involved.
