Question 1

What does a P0606 code mean on my car?

Accepted Answer

P0606 means your car's ECM (Engine Control Module) has detected an internal processor fault. The ECU's self-monitoring has flagged that its own processor is not operating correctly. This can be caused by ECU hardware failure, but also by faulty power supply or poor earth connections to the ECU — so proper diagnosis is essential before replacing anything.

Question 2

Can I drive with a P0606 fault code?

Accepted Answer

You should not drive with a P0606 code beyond what is necessary to get the vehicle to a garage. Most vehicles will enter limp mode or may not start at all. Driving in this condition risks further damage and leaves you vulnerable to a sudden no-start situation.

Question 3

Does a P0606 always mean I need a new ECU?

Accepted Answer

No. While P0606 can indicate ECU hardware failure, it is frequently caused by poor earth connections, corroded wiring, or voltage supply problems to the ECU. A proper diagnostic check of the supply and earth circuits must be carried out before condemning the ECU. MnF Motors always tests these first to avoid unnecessary parts costs.

Question 4

How much does P0606 diagnosis and repair cost in Hackney?

Accepted Answer

Diagnostic checks start from £65. If the fault lies in wiring or earth circuits, repair costs are typically modest. If ECU replacement or cloning is needed, we will give you a clear, itemised quote before any work begins. We do not guess or swap parts at your expense.

Question 5

Can MnF Motors repair or clone an ECU instead of buying a new one?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Where the ECU hardware is confirmed faulty, we explore repair and cloning options before recommending an outright replacement. Cloning or remanufacturing an ECU is often significantly cheaper than a new unit and avoids the programming complications that come with fitting a blank ECU to many modern vehicles.
