Question 1

Can I drive with the engine management light on if my car feels fine?

Accepted Answer

Short-term, yes — but it is not advisable. The EML signals a stored fault that may worsen silently. More critically, a car with an active EML will fail its MOT regardless of how it drives. Get it diagnosed as soon as possible.

Question 2

How much does engine management light diagnosis cost in North London?

Accepted Answer

At MnF Motors, electrical fault diagnosis starts from £60. That includes a proper multi-system scan, fault code interpretation and a clear explanation of the cause — not just a code printout.

Question 3

Will the engine management light cause an MOT failure?

Accepted Answer

Yes. An illuminated engine management light is an automatic MOT failure under current DVSA rules, even if the car drives and feels completely normal.

Question 4

Is clearing the fault code the same as fixing the problem?

Accepted Answer

No. Clearing the code turns the light off temporarily, but the underlying fault remains. The light will return — sometimes within miles. Proper diagnosis identifies and fixes the root cause so it does not come back.

Question 5

How long does engine management light diagnosis take at MnF Motors?

Accepted Answer

The diagnostic scan itself typically takes 30–60 minutes. Depending on the fault found, many repairs can be completed the same day. We will always give you a clear timeframe before any work begins.
