Question 1

Why is my dashboard completely dead but my car still starts?

Accepted Answer

If the engine starts but the instrument cluster shows nothing, the cluster itself has likely lost its power feed or earth, or the cluster module has failed internally. A blown fuse on the cluster supply circuit is the most common and cheapest cause — it takes minutes to confirm.

Question 2

Can a dead dashboard stop my car from starting?

Accepted Answer

Yes. On many modern vehicles the instrument cluster houses or communicates directly with the immobiliser module. If the cluster has no power or has failed, the immobiliser cannot confirm the key, and the engine will crank but not fire — or will not crank at all.

Question 3

How much does it cost to diagnose a dead instrument cluster in Wood Green?

Accepted Answer

MnF Motors charges from £65 for a full diagnostic scan and electrical inspection. If the fault is a fuse or wiring issue, the total bill is often under £100. A replacement or reconditioned cluster is quoted separately before any work begins.

Question 4

How long does a cluster diagnosis take?

Accepted Answer

A diagnostic scan plus supply-voltage and CAN bus check typically takes 45–90 minutes. If a fuse or relay is the cause, the repair can be completed the same visit. Cluster replacement may require the vehicle for a full day.

Question 5

Do I need to book, or can I just turn up?

Accepted Answer

Booking is always recommended to guarantee a ramp and technician time. Call 020 8803 1231 or use the Get a Quote button on this page. Same-day slots are sometimes available for electrical faults.
