Question 1

What does fault code B1000 mean?

Accepted Answer

B1000 indicates an internal fault within your vehicle's airbag control unit (ACU/SRS ECU). It most commonly appears after a collision — even a minor one — when crash event data has been stored in the module's memory, locking it out of normal operation.

Question 2

Will a B1000 code cause an MOT failure?

Accepted Answer

Yes. An illuminated airbag warning light is an automatic MOT failure. The B1000 fault will keep that light on until the root cause is resolved. Do not book an MOT until the fault has been properly diagnosed and repaired.

Question 3

Can the airbag ECU be repaired, or does it need replacing?

Accepted Answer

In most B1000 cases the module can be repaired — crash data is reset and the internal fault cleared — without replacing the unit. A like-for-like replacement is only recommended when the module has sustained physical or electrical damage beyond recovery.

Question 4

How much does B1000 airbag ECU repair cost in Islington?

Accepted Answer

A diagnostic session starts from £65. Crash data reset and module repair typically ranges from £120–£280 depending on vehicle make and the extent of the internal fault. MnF Motors provides a firm quote before any work begins — no hidden charges.

Question 5

Is it safe to drive with the B1000 fault code active?

Accepted Answer

Technically the car may still drive, but your airbag system is compromised. In a subsequent collision the airbags may not deploy — or may deploy unexpectedly. We strongly advise against driving with an active B1000 fault beyond what is necessary to reach the garage.
