Question 1

What does fault code B1318 mean?

Accepted Answer

B1318 means the airbag control module (SRS module) is detecting low battery voltage on its supply circuit. It does not necessarily mean the airbag module has failed — the fault is almost always in the power supply, charging system, earth straps or wiring rather than the module itself.

Question 2

Is it safe to drive with a B1318 code and the airbag light on?

Accepted Answer

Technically the car will drive, but with the airbag light on your SRS system may not deploy correctly in a collision. You should have it diagnosed promptly. It is also an MOT failure if the airbag warning lamp is illuminated.

Question 3

How much does B1318 diagnosis and repair cost in Loughton?

Accepted Answer

A full electrical diagnosis at MnF Motors typically starts from £65. Most B1318 faults are resolved by battery replacement, charging system repair or earth strap work — common repairs ranging from £80–£250 depending on the vehicle. We quote before we touch anything.

Question 4

Will I need a new airbag module to fix B1318?

Accepted Answer

Rarely. In over 25 years of electrical fault work, we find the vast majority of B1318 faults trace back to a weak battery, a failing alternator, corroded earth straps or damaged wiring — not the SRS module itself. Replacing the module without diagnosing the supply first is expensive and often fails to clear the code.
