Question 1

Why does my car make one click and not start?

Accepted Answer

A single loud click almost always points to a faulty starter solenoid, a failed starter motor, or a broken main earth or power cable. The battery usually has enough charge to fire the solenoid once but cannot sustain the current draw of the starter motor. Rapid clicking instead usually means a discharged battery.

Question 2

How much does it cost to diagnose a single-click no-start fault in Hertfordshire?

Accepted Answer

MnF Motors charges from £60 for an electrical fault diagnosis, which includes a full circuit test covering the battery, solenoid, starter motor and earth/power paths. Any repair quote is provided before work begins.

Question 3

Can I drive my car to MnF Motors if it won't start?

Accepted Answer

If the car will not start at all, you will need it recovered to our Edmonton N18 workshop. Once it is with us, we carry out a full circuit diagnosis and advise you of the cause and cost before any repair work starts.

Question 4

Is a single click always the starter motor or could it be something else?

Accepted Answer

Not always. A seized engine will also produce a single click followed by nothing, as will a badly corroded or loose battery terminal. MnF Motors tests the full starting circuit — battery, terminals, earth strap, solenoid, and starter motor — so the exact cause is confirmed before any parts are replaced.

Question 5

How long does the diagnosis and repair usually take?

Accepted Answer

In most cases the electrical circuit test takes 60–90 minutes. If a starter motor or solenoid replacement is needed and the part is available same day, many customers have their car back the same day or the following morning.
