Question 1

What does fault code P0340 mean?

Accepted Answer

P0340 means the ECU is not receiving the expected signal from the camshaft position sensor circuit. This can be a failed sensor, a wiring fault, a timing chain issue, or in rare cases an ECU problem. The car may crank without starting, stall, or run poorly.

Question 2

Can I drive with a P0340 fault code?

Accepted Answer

In many cases the car will not start at all with P0340. If it does run, driving with this fault risks stalling at speed and can cause catalytic converter damage. We recommend getting it diagnosed immediately.

Question 3

How much does P0340 diagnosis cost at MnF Motors?

Accepted Answer

Our electrical fault diagnosis starts from £55. A camshaft sensor replacement typically ranges from £80–£180 depending on vehicle make and sensor access. We quote clearly before any work begins — no hidden charges.

Question 4

How long does it take to fix a P0340 fault?

Accepted Answer

Diagnosis usually takes 45–90 minutes. If the fault is a straightforward sensor or wiring repair, many vehicles are back on the road the same day. More complex timing-related faults may require an additional day.
