Question 1

What does fault code P0340 mean?

Accepted Answer

P0340 means the ECU has detected an abnormal or missing signal from the camshaft position sensor circuit. This could be the sensor itself, damaged wiring, a loose connector, a timing fault, or in rare cases the ECU. It needs live data testing to confirm which component is actually at fault.

Question 2

Can I drive with a P0340 fault code?

Accepted Answer

We strongly advise against it. P0340 can cause the engine to stall without warning, fail to restart, or run very poorly. Driving with this fault risks being stranded and, if there is an underlying timing issue, potential engine damage.

Question 3

How much does P0340 diagnosis cost in Winchmore Hill?

Accepted Answer

MnF Motors charges a transparent diagnostic fee that is confirmed before any work starts. Sensor replacement typically starts from around £80–£150 depending on vehicle make, model, and part availability. Wiring repairs vary. You will always receive a clear quote before we proceed.

Question 4

Why is my car showing P0340 after I already replaced the camshaft sensor?

Accepted Answer

This is very common. P0340 is a circuit code, not simply a sensor code. If the wiring, connector, shielding, or timing is at fault, fitting a new sensor will not clear it. Proper live data testing is essential to pinpoint the actual cause — which is exactly what MnF Motors does before touching any parts.

Question 5

How long does a P0340 diagnosis and repair take at MnF Motors?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, diagnosis takes one to two hours. If a sensor replacement or wiring repair is needed and parts are in stock, the full job is often completed the same day. We will give you a realistic time estimate when you book.
