Question 1

What does fault code P0606 mean?

Accepted Answer

P0606 means the ECM (Engine Control Module) has detected an internal processor fault. The ECU's self-monitoring circuit has failed its own check. It does not automatically mean the ECU is dead — a poor earth or unstable power supply can trigger the same code.

Question 2

Can I drive my car with a P0606 code?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, no. P0606 typically puts the vehicle into limp mode or prevents it starting altogether. Continuing to drive risks further damage. Book a diagnostic check as soon as possible.

Question 3

Does P0606 always mean I need a new ECU?

Accepted Answer

Not always. Before condemning the ECU, MnF Motors checks earth continuity, battery voltage under load, supply feeds to the ECU and connector integrity. In a significant number of cases the ECU itself is fine and the fault lies elsewhere.

Question 4

How much does P0606 diagnosis and repair cost in Hertfordshire?

Accepted Answer

The diagnostic check starts from £65. If the ECU requires repair or cloning, costs are confirmed in writing before any work begins. MnF Motors does not fit parts speculatively.

Question 5

Can MnF Motors repair or clone my existing ECU rather than replace it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Where hardware repair is viable, MnF Motors can repair the existing unit or supply and clone a replacement, retaining your vehicle's unique coding. This is often significantly cheaper than a main dealer ECU replacement.
