Question 1

What does U0100 mean on my car?

Accepted Answer

U0100 means the vehicle's diagnostic network (CAN bus) has lost communication with the Engine Control Module (ECM). It's a network fault, not necessarily a dead ECU — the cause is often a wiring issue, a failed earth connection, or a fault on the CAN line itself.

Question 2

Can I drive my car with a U0100 fault code?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, no. U0100 typically triggers a no-start condition or causes intermittent cut-outs while driving, making the vehicle unsafe or undriveable. You should have it diagnosed before driving further.

Question 3

How much does U0100 diagnosis cost in Hackney?

Accepted Answer

MnF Motors charges from £60 for electrical fault diagnosis including U0100. That covers a full electrical diagnostic session — not just reading the code, but tracing the actual cause.

Question 4

Will I need a new ECU for a U0100 fault?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. The majority of U0100 faults are caused by wiring damage, corroded earth points, or CAN bus line faults — not a failed ECU. Replacing an ECU without proper diagnosis is expensive and often unnecessary.

Question 5

How far is MnF Motors from Hackney?

Accepted Answer

MnF Motors is based in Edmonton N18, approximately 7–9 miles from central Hackney — typically 25–35 minutes by road. We serve Hackney and all areas within a 20-mile radius of Edmonton for diagnostics, repairs and servicing.
